TrackThinkTS Privacy Policy

This privacy policy was developed by Ubi-lab (hereinafter referred to as “the developer”) related to using TrackThinkTS extensions (hereinafter referred to as “extension”) This shows the policy that this developer will comply with when handling personal information of the users.

Basic policy

The developer recognizes the importance of personal information and considers that it is a social responsibility to protect personal information. The developer will comply with laws and regulations regarding personal information, and properly acquire, use, and manage personal information gathered by the extension’s functions.

Scope of this policy

This privacy policy applies only to extensions produced by this developer.

Collected Data

This extension collects the following data. The data we collect may contain personal information.

• User ID: An identifier automatically generated by this extension
• Username: The username is defined by the user before the start of the experiment
• Tab operation event (display page URL and content at that time)
  • TabCreate： Event of opening a new tab
  • TabActivate： Event of selecting a tab
  • TabUpdate： Event of updating a tab
  • TabRemove： Event of closing a tab
• Screen/window operation events
  • ClipboardCopy： The content of the copied text
  • WindowScroll： Information about scrolling when it happens

Due to the nature of the experiment, it is necessary to monitor the operation on the browser during programming learning (during the experiment period). The extension will require access to information about all tabs and all browsed pages.

Purpose of storing collected data locally

The following user information is saved in the Local Storage of the user’s browser.

• User ID
• Username

These information will be stored across many usages of the extension.

In case the cloud upload is enabled by the research assistant, the following log information is sent to the server managed by the developer.

• User ID
• Username
• Tab operation event (display page URL and content at that time)
• Screen operation event (clipboard, scroll information)

This data will be used to analyze this study, and it is the same data as the export functionality will generate.

About the retention period of collected data

The logs and user information are stored within the extension’s LocalStorage. Since there is no retention period, the data will be stored until the extension is uninstalled.

The log data that the user submits, whether after exporting the logs or by cloud upload, will be retained for the research period of this experiment and for the number of years specified by the university institution after the period ends.

For any request to delete the data please contact the developer.

Consent to handle personal information

Please read this privacy policy before installing the extension. After the extension has been installed we consider that you have agreed to this privacy policy.

About deletion of collected data

Users of this extension can request the deletion of collected data at any time, by contacting the developer.

Ensuring the accuracy of information

The developer assumes that the date entered by the user is the correct one, and there is no fake or erronous manipulation of the generation logs and personal information.

Safety management measures

To prevent information leakage or loss, information will mainly be stored in the user’s computer. The user can submit the logs to the research assistant / professor. There is an option to send the data to a cloud server, but this option is disabled by default and will not be used unless in a proper controlled environment.

Provision of personal information to third parties

The data gathered by this extension will not provide any personal information provided by the user to a third party without the explicit consent of the user.

In addition, if we decide to provide it to a third party in the future, we will explain the information to be provided and the purpose of provision, and will provide it to a third party only with the consent of the user.
